AZ and DZ Licenses — What Are the Differences

Truck drivers in Toronto need a commercial license to drive — designated as AZ or DZ. Regular drivers who already possess a G or M license in Toronto can upgrade their licenses to AZ or DZ if they want to drive commercial vehicles. Qualified drivers with AZ or DZ licenses are pretty much in demand in Toronto.

You need an AZ license when you want to drive any truck-tractor-trailer combination, a combination of a motor vehicle and towed vehicle with air-brakes when the towed vehicle weighs more than 4,600 kg, or a vehicle pulling double trailers.

A driver must hold a valid Class G license with a minimum of twelve months of driving experience in order to apply for a DZ license. Apart from this, they’ve to take the training program associated with DZ driving at a recognized driving school in Toronto and qualify for the exam in order to be able to drive with a DZ license.

DZ drivers have physical aspects of loading & unloading their trucks in their profiles. It is a daily basis work and doesn’t involve longer runs, unlike the AZ drivers.
